Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education

Message from the Chair

As the Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE), I wish to extend a warm welcome to all of you, as we embark on the 2017-18 academic year. Now well into our Department’s second century of existence, we renew our commitment to train leaders of tomorrow through excellence in teaching, research and service, and to advance and translate knowledge about sport, physical activity and human health across the lifespan. Whether you are a student, an alumnus, a supporter or are thinking of joining us, we invite you to embark on this mission with us.

This past year, we began a renewal period for our professoriate and staff, and this growth will continue in 2017-18. At the academic program level, we offer current, diversified, quality professional preparation within the Physical and Health Education teacher training degree, and a rich and hands-on experience, with the recent inauguration of our Tassone Teaching Lab, and plans to develop a Kinesiology clinic, to our Kinesiology students. There are also opportunities for all undergraduate students to take active roles in research by joining KPE labs throughout the course of their programs. At the graduate level, we offer two research-based Master’s degrees (M.A., M.Sc.) and are in the process of formalizing a doctoral program. Graduate students have the opportunity to advance knowledge on the physiological, neuromechanical or behavioural mechanisms of health, disability and disease across the lifespan, under the guidance of our expert researchers. At all levels, there are funding opportunities that are available for qualified students.

So, if you are a new student, I extend a warm welcome to you and I wish you a stimulating journey with us in KPE. If you are a continuing student nearing graduation, we welcome your contributions and feedback so that we can make your stay in KPE as enjoyable as can be, and we encourage you to keep in touch and remain a member of our KPE family past graduation. If you are a prospective student, family member, partner, or alumnus, I extend an invitation to you: please join us in our continued efforts to grow KPE into a world-class, vibrant research and training environment.
