School of Communication Sciences and Disorders

The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, within McGill’s renowned Faculty of Medicine, was the first university department in Canada to offer both professional and research training at the graduate level in Communication Sciences and Disorders. The School offers outstanding professional training in Speech-Language Pathology through its M.Sc.A?Applied degree, as well as state-of-the-art research training via its M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees.

The mission of the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders is to advance our understanding of human communication and its disorders and to promote excellence in scholarship as well as in professional service. This is achieved by providing a challenging multidisciplinary learning environment and engaging in scholarly activities that not only advance basic and applied knowledge, but that will ensure our place among the international leaders of the field.

Faculty

Dr. Susan Rvachew was awarded a Fellowship of the Association by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association in 2012. Fellowship is one of the highest honours bestowed by the Association on ASHA members, in recognition of outstanding contributions to the discipline of communications sciences and disorders.

Dr. Marc Pell has been awarded a Chercheur-boursier 'Senior' award from the FRSQ (2010-14).

Staff

SCSD Administrator, Karen Cavanagh, received a 2013 Outstanding Service Award, presented by Dr. Marc Pell at the SCSD 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner.

SCSD Adminstrative Secretary Antoinette Sommer has been recognized by the MUHC Deparment of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology for all she does each fall to make teaching duties at the School run smoothly for our part time teaching staff. A celebration luncheon will be held at the MGH in May, 2005, as part of Speech and Hearing month celebrations.
